CH2M HILL OMI supports earthquake victims in China

May 30, 2008—In honor of its client – the City of Sandy Springs, Ga. – CH2M HILL OMI has donated $5,000 to the city’s campaign to raise money for Chinese earthquake victims.

The contribution was the first received by the Sandy Springs campaign, which aims to specifically aid people in Deyang, China. Sandy Springs officials recently hosted a group of visitors from Deyang and created an instant bond with the visiting dignitaries. As a result of that friendship, the city now is urging businesses and residents to help provide relief to Deyang.

“Right now, money is the greatest and most urgent need,” said Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos. “Thank you for your kindness and generosity.”

“We are pleased to support the efforts to bring much-needed help to the people in this devastated area,” said Rick Hirsekorn, vice president of municipal services for CH2M HILL OMI.

At 2:28 p.m. on May 12, an 8.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in Sichuan. Deyang, which is nearby, suffered seriously from this earthquake with an estimated shock greater than magnitude 6.0. Altogether six cities are under the administration of Deyang, and all six suffered losses.

CH2M HILL OMI has provided complete municipal services to the City of Sandy Springs since the community was incorporated in December 2005. The donation aligns with the company’s mission to set a leadership example as a strong corporate citizen.

According to the city, people who want to support earthquake relief may send a check to the Chinese Consulate General Disaster Relief Office, 3417 Montrose Blvd., Houston, TX 77006. The check should be made out to the Chinese Consulate General.
