GILROY, Calif., Feb. 15, 2008—The South County Regional Wastewater Authority’s facility that serves the cities of Gilroy and Morgan Hill has earned the 2007 Plant of the Year Award from the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Monterey Bay Section. The wastewater facility is operated by CH2M HILL OMI.
The Plant of the Year award honors the wastewater system that has demonstrated top compliance and reporting, innovative practices, cost-effectiveness and reduction, and other evidence of superior plant operation. Also named Plant of the Year in 2005, the Gilroy and Morgan Hill facility is qualified to enter the statewide CWEA competition in April.
In addition to Plant of the Year, the facility and staff earned three other CWEA awards, presented Feb. 8 at the Monterey Bay Section’s annual meeting:
- Safety Program of the Year Award, earned for the sixth time in seven years.
- Operator of the Year Award for lead operator Oscar Baltazar.
- Laboratory Person of the Year Award for laboratory director Jesus Luna.
“These awards validate that this is one of the top wastewater and recycled water facilities in California,” says CH2M HILL OMI Project Manager Brenda Miles. “The staff is great, has worked hard and deserves this recognition. I am proud to be a part of this team.”
CH2M HILL OMI has operated the South County Regional Wastewater Authority’s facility since 1984 and has a comprehensive safety and quality program in place. CH2M HILL OMI’s work consists of operating the secondary wastewater facility, water recycling plant, laboratory monitoring, odor control program, and public information program.
