June 28, 2007—Who are some of the best water and wastewater operators in the business? CH2M HILL OMI is helping the industry find out.
The company is a major sponsor this year of two annual competitions that show off the skills and smarts of the people so important to making the water services industry shine.
This week, CH2M HILL was the exclusive sponsor of the Top Ops competition at the American Water Works Association’s annual conference, held this year in Toronto. This quiz bowl-style competition tests the knowledge and know-how of water treatment operators.
Three-person teams from across the U.S. compete at a local level so they can earn a spot at the national championship event. It’s an AWWA conference highlight that captures the attention of hundreds of spectators each year, and it was the fourth year that CH2M HILL has been a sponsor. To mark the milestone of the event's 10th anniversary, all teams received photos in frames featuring the Toronto skyline and the CH2M HILL logo.
Coming up in October in San Diego, CH2M HILL will be a key sponsor for the Water Environment Federation’s Operations Challenge, known in the industry as the “wastewater Olympics.” Four-person Ops Challenge teams will compete in hands-on safety, maintenance, laboratory analysis, process control, and collections system events.
CH2M HILL employees get involved in both events as scorekeepers, event chairs, coordinators and more.
“Both Top Ops and Ops Challenge highlight the value of operations and maintenance in the water and wastewater industry by showcasing operators,” says Gary Miller, senior vice president at CH2M HILL. “Sponsoring these events is one of the ways we can help our industry continue to grow and deliver excellence."
CH2M HILL also will be the exclusive sponsor of the AWWA's Top Ops competition held June 8-12, 2008, in Atlanta, and of the 2009 competition held June 14-18 in San Diego. |
